CATEGORIES OF RESEARCH
Historical Research
The aim is to reconstruct the past event systematically and objectively by collecting, evaluating, verifying, synthesizing the evidences and the facts to draw a conclusion.
e.g. Netherlands Administration in colonial situation in Java.
Descriptive Research
The aim is to give deep description on the facts systematically and accurately of the specific object.
e.g. survey on prices of goods.
Case Study Research
The aim is to search the evidences and the background intensively of the specific object at the moment.
e.g. the study of a drug abuser
Correlation Research
The aim is to detect the correlation between the variables accordingly.
e.g. the study of laziness and score of the students.
Comparative Research
The aim is to find the fact of similarities and differences of the objects.
e.g. managerial leadership of two or more institution.
Experimental Research
The aim is to get the fact that one or more variable effect other variable using a/some treatments.
e.g. classroom experiment
note: there are, actually two kinds of experimental research, the true and quasi experimental research.
Action Research
The aim is to find a solution or better condition of the situation by taking actions.
e.g. trainer of trainer of teaching speaking in English class.
Assignment
In a group of three, select and discuss one of the research above. Finally, please arise one interesting topic that is essential to be explored or investigated during your research period. Elaborate the evidences why the topic is important to take.
A good teacher is someone who is always doing his best to be better. There are many ways that a teacher can take for his professional development. The most appealing to me is action research. Action research is an inquiry that is designed and conducted by a teacher to answer a question about a problem he is encountering in his place of work. It differs from other kinds of research in that it is carried out by the person concerned; that is the teacher. It is a research process that is action-oriented. The aim of an action research is to justify actions that are taken in the classroom in hope of improving our teaching practices.
ReplyDeleteIn our interesting topic to be explored in action research is “how can I improve the speaking skills of my students”. I think the speaking skills is very important because with that the students can commmunicate with other people that use english. and this topic can be a draft question which is then modified and made more specific later as the teacher is getting a better idea of what he is going to investigate. And then in action research is to do a data collection. For this a teacher-researcher can use different tools such as interviews and questionnaires or students' work.
as a teacher we should have the descriptive research and give an interaction research. because from the interaction research we can find and act the aim for learners.

In our group take about Experimental Research..
How to Teach with Classroom Experiments?
Students develop conjectures during class:
Conducting a classroom experiment is easy to do. In a published experiment, there will typically be "instructor's notes" containing detailed instructions for conducting the experiment. Sometimes the instructor plays an active role and in other cases the instructor gives students a period of time to complete the experiment while the instructor is passive. Teaching notes also generally give suggestions for adapting the exercise to different classroom environments, for example, large vs. small classes. They may also contain variations that might help tailor the experiment to an individual instructor's course.
Conducting a classroom experiment involves several important steps, they are:
1. Instructor Preparation: Instructors routinely study classes to their own students.
2. Student Preparation: Helping the students prepare for the experiment is key to them having a successful learning experience.
3. Conducting the experiment and collecting data (with an example of an experiment): Working through the logistics of carrying out the experiment can be key to students having a successful experience.
4. Analyzing the data and Extending the Experience: Once you collect the data, communicating the results to students and linking it to what they are learning in class is very important. Just doing the experiment isn't enough - you need to guide students through the process of interpreting and learning from what happened.
5. Assessing student achievement of learning goals: Standard tests, quizzes and homework assignments can be used to measure what students are learning in class.
According to us why that topic is important to take, because it's important the something for experiment from Research in ELT and we become aware of the classroom experience of active and inactive as well as student learning experiences in order to become successful in the classroom or school.

We'd like to take an Action Research.
Action research is a process in which participants examine their own educational practice systematically and carefully, using the techniques of research. It is based on the following assumptions:
• Teachers and principals work best on problems
they have identified for themselves
• Teachers and principals become more effective
when encouraged to examine and assess their
own work and then consider ways of working
differently
• Teachers and principals help each other by
working collaboratively
• Working with colleagues helps teachers and
principals in their professional development
Then, we'd like to try to seeking some solutions
to problems of classroom management, instructional
strategies, use of materials, or student learning.
The topic is important to take because we-as a teacher-will be faced to situation in classroom.
With this topic we can see what should we do in our class.
Thank you.

Assalamu'alaikum, Wr.Wb.
according to our group the best research for the classroom is action research. why? because Action research is a reflective process of progressive problem solving led by individuals working with others in teams or as part of a "community of practice" to improve the way they address issues and solve problems. Action research is done simply by action, hence the name. Action research can also be undertaken by larger classroom, assisted or guided by professional researchers, so that teacher can improving their strategies, practices, and knowledge of the environments within which they practice.
the interesting topic is how to master in grammar.
the topic is important to take because nowdays, we always faced difficulty in answer exercise of grammar.
that's all. thank you,sir.
wassalamu'alaikum Wr. Wb.

for this topic,i think i need use action research. because we need solution, the methode for this case.
